This is the third year that 'Polyfest' has run in Invercargill and comprises both a performance by children from local schools and early childhood settings as well as a Art Exhibition which is held at the Invercargill Museum and Art Gallery.
We have been busily working on different pieces of Art t
o enter into the exhibition - Screen Printing, Mosaics, Masks and the list goes on, with all entries to be in by July 15th.
The exhibition will run from the 22nd of July - 21st of August with the official opening happening on the 5th of August.
If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask Kylie, Judy or Ginny.
We will keep you updated.

Matariki

The Seven Stars of Matariki *******

Have you heard about Matariki?
We have been celebrating Matariki at Kindergarten this week as we welcome in the Maori New year. Every year in June you are able to see the seven stars of Matariki in the night sky, marking the beginning of the Maori year. We will be holding celebrations and discussions with the children during the month of June through stories, waiata, and Maori legends.
We encourage you to search the night sky, on these lovely clear frosty nights, with your children, and find the cluster of stars...often known as 'The Seven Sisters of Matariki'...Let us know how you go!!
Have you got any ideas how we can celebrate this special occasion as a Kindergarten group?? We would love to hear from you so leave a comment and let us know.

And we can't forget to mention the other important event that happened during the week...
A BIG Happy 50th Birthday to Judy!! You don't look a day over 21!!

Have a great weekend, keep warm,
Kylie, Judy and Ginny!!

A birthday celebration for the Queen...

Wow!! What a fantastic day.
Thanks to all those who bought along a shared plate for the Queen's Birthday Feast...There certainly wasn't a lack of food at all!! We always feel very humbled by all the hard work that you put into making these days special for your children.
Check out the slideshow of the day. What a great bunch of Kings and Queens we have at Winton Kindergarten!
It was interesting listening to all the discussions from the children about who IS the Queen?? And the fact that she was 85 years old...Yep that's pretty old apparently!! We also had the pleasure of watching the recent wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton, where many of the children were able to tell me who they were and what was happening. Obviously there were a few followers of the royal wedding in their household. It's great to be able to have a shared appreciation for what is happening around the world and it is important to be able to share these big moments in history with your children...Keep it up!
Have a great long weekend and we will see you all back here on Tuesday,
Kylie, Judy and Ginny
