Term 4 Week 2

The end of our second week of the Term already! We have LOTS happening around the place and have had lots of visitors...chickens...teddy bears...and bees!!

A big thanks to Bevan for sharing your "clucky chickens" with us on Tuesday! We were intrigued to find an egg had been laid whilst your six chicks spent the morning with us...and then ended our day with a time-lapse video, watching an egg hatch and the baby chick grow before our very eyes! Hands-on with our play and learning at Winton Kindy!

"Today's the day the Teddy Bears have their Picnic!"
On Wednesday we farewelled Lilly in style - Teddy Bear style! Teddy bears - big and small - spent the day sharing in on the fun here at Kindy... Let's go on a Bear Hunt around Kindy... and guess what - we DID catch a big one! And we also had a very special visitor -  Lilly's baby bear brother, Grayson, who joined us for our Teddy Bears Picnic lunch. Thank you to our families for showing your combined support to Grayson and family, as he awaits life saving heart surgery...Kia kaha!

Buzz....Buzz...Buzz
This week nga tamariki have been exploring bees through The Arts, as we piece together our combined entry for the Limehills Pet Show Day. Our pine cone bumble bees showcases our naturalist approach to learning, and we look forward to seeing our efforts on display when we head along to Limehills School to share in their special Pet Show day - on Monday.

In Week 3 we look forward to visiting our friends at Limehills School (Monday 30th) and Winton School (Friday 3rd) to partake in their Pet Show Days- fostering the relationship between our two settings and supporting our Transition to School Policy. We also begin our Amazing Me Programme next week. Please check Parent Pockets for more information. We will be using our Facebook Page to pose questions and tasks for families to complete - if you're not already a member, please add us "Winton Kindergarten Closed Group".

Have a GREAT weekend ...

Term 4 Week 1

Welcome back everyone ... it's great to be back!!!

At the end of last term our ecological entry into the local Winton Spring Flower Show - Hobbit Hole  was awarded 1st prize ... and this week Daphne Batt on behalf of the Spring Flower Show team also dropped in some veggie & flower plants for us!!!

A tribute from the Flower Show team!!!

We continue with our ecological perspective with the introduction of these earthy 'solanum tuberosum'!  And what's that in the middle?  Here's a challange ... message us below in the comments if you can identify any of these!

How is everyone's Beans?  Some of the Beans were left @ Kindy over the Term Break.  It has been with amazement that we've notice the changes of our beans ... swell, split & sprout! Send through some pics of your bean ... we'd love to see them & hear your bean stories!

Our very own Bean House @ Kindy has indeed changed over the term break ... this will (over time) become a very magical playscape as we take note of how the bean vines weave their way over & around the frame!

Our New World 'Little Gardens' continue to intrigue ALL the children.  Grow little seeds GROW!!!

Scientific literacy is alive and well @ Winton Kindy. By enabling nga tamariki to investigate the living world, we'll help them build confidence, broaden their interests, develop scientific thinking skills, and build knowledge. Tamariki need to feel confident (arahina/māiatanga), capable, and empowered to think, act, and participate as scientists.

Wow ... what are these Ryan? Ryan Walker shared a container of molluscs ... let's create an aquatic habitat for them!

How do they move without legs?  'They slide ... see'.  Well Done Georgia Wylie - that very strong muscle creates muscus that allows them to 'slide' along a surface!  How ingenious is that!!! Over the next week 'pop' into the Project Room & see if there are any changes in this aquatic Project.

And another Project we have been working on is to design a sign for the new Environment South doggy 'pooh' wheelie bins that will be introduced around local walking tracks in Southland. A BIG tks to our resident graphic designers ... Isla Langford, Luiza Frew & Ashar Sinclair.

Over the next few weeks we have been invited along to various school Pet Show days.  A notice with more details will be posted.

Nga Kaiako Judy, Christina & Antonia

Have a GREAT Labour Day weekend ... DON'T COME MONDAY ... we'll see you all Tue next week!!!
