Term 4 Weeks 5/6

1 2 3 AMAZING ME!

Over the past two weeks we have enjoyed the final of the Amazing Me Keeping Our self Safe Programme. A big thank you to families for supporting this important curriculum delivery, such as helping your child to learn their address and phone number, and reiterating where your 'SAFE PLACE' is at home. We have received many drawings of where our tamariki live, and lots of photos sharing safe places - nga mihi. We continue to overhear the children revisit and recall our learnings, from repeating some key statements: "I am amazing!" reinforcing our self-esteem and can-do attitudes; "Your turn, my turn, your turn, mine!' as we practice our negotiating skills; "STOP, THINK AND ACT!" as a decision making and problem solving strategy; and, labelling and expressing how they feel to each other and the teaching team.

This week is our final week of our Amazing Me programme, but not the end of positive reinforcement of  all of these fabulous strategies and skills to care for ourselves and others. Another great resource we have been watching is "Have You Filled A Bucket Today?" Written by Carol McCloud Illustrated by David Messing  follow this link to watch at home

TAIAO TUHURA DISCOVERING NATURE PROGRAMME

'Keeping our self safe' continues to influence all aspects of our programme, with our Taiao Tuhura Programme being postponed in Week 5 due to caution being taken regarding the potential of illegal trapping in the area. A big thank you to our Southland District Council for their quick response. In Week 6 we farewelled Arlo from the group, who has started at Winton School, and we also said farewell to Zkynt who will begin at St Thomas School - a big thank you to both whanau for their enormous support and aroha throughout our time together at Winton Kindy.

KINDY PHOTOS

A big thank you to our AMAZING Parent Group for organising Geoff Horrell Photography to take this year's Kindy photos. A special snap shot of life-long friendships that have found their foundations within the playground and playscape of Winton Kindy - how very special indeed.

CHRISTMAS IS IN THE AIR...

With the approaching Festive Season the tamariki & Kaiako have begun to brainstorming some naturalistic Christmas decorations.   With the help of our SVA from Limehills School (on Thur avro) the Project Room has been buzzing with busy 'elves' crafting and creating some ataahua pieces!

If you have any ideas or some time to give we would love some more 'elves' to facilitate these creations when we get closer to Christmas. The tamariki absolutely love when their whanau come in and share in their learning at Kindy!!

KIWI CHRISTMAS BOOKS

Please remember to support this wonderful charity if your able;

"Kiwi Christmas Books collects brand new books to gift to Kiwi kids doing it tough at Christmas — those young people using the services of the City Missions, the Women’s Refuges, and other great charities around the country."

Term 4 Week 3/4

The last two weeks have been full of embracing the sun, notions of warmer days, captivating twilights ... and a subtle hint of summer!

Captivated is a key word.  We continue to be captivated with 'Amazing Me' ... our                                  Self-Help/Self Awareness/Keeping Ourselves Safe programme.

Where in the World do we live?  Google Earth

Technology can be sooooo engaging.  Click on this link to view ... Google Earth

Through this App we were able to 'find' some of the children's 'My Place'!!!

Along with familiarising oursevles with where we live we also have shared these stickers  - when you find your Safe Meeting Place stick them onto or close to your 'Our Safe Meeting Place' site.  A GREAT visual prompt in times of need!!!

Keep all those 'This is a Picture of My House' coming in ...

Amazing Me Self Portraits ...

We've introduced Photo Booth over the last few weeks.  An App on our BIG Mac that INTRIGUES    everyone (NOT just tamariki) ... CRAZY pics indeed.

The crazy pics became a fanciful intro into our own self portraits ... representational drawings.   These self-portraits are windows into the children's identities. It's a great skill in looking closely & sharing our seeing & thinking - a blueprint or bold declaration of identity.  Their details tell us how the children see themselves & what they choose to emphasize in their drawings about themselves. Our children's self-portraits are revealing & tender.  In their drawings, the children make visible the intimate details of their faces & capture their spirit!
What do you see when you look in the mirror?  What stories does/can your face tell?
Elle is currently creating a display of ALL our portraits - they are PRICELESS!!!

Next week is our final week & conclusion of our Amazing Me programme.  It builds off all we have been immersed in along with a 'sharing' component ... your turn, my turn, your turn, mine!  Tks for all your input & contributions from home.

Grow Little Seed Grow ...

Tks to everyone who donated New World 'Little Gardens'.  We've left a question for EVERYONE to consider - How does a seed know what it will become?

It's THAT time of the year - The Gift of Giving ...

A BIG tks to Buell who gifted us some 'taonga' - handmade by Grandpa -  made with local Southland Beech.

Buell's Grandpa has MORE wooden puzzles available for sale ... maybe a Xmas present idea!

Another notable 'taonga' is the Kiwi Christmas Charitable Trust ... a wonderful nationwide Xmas   initiative.  Collect donations of brand new books to give to kids in need @ Christmas.  Our local drop-off  is Young Reflections - Invercargill. Click on the link below for more details.  Kiwi Christmas Books

A further accolade from the 2020 Winton Spring Flower Show is the 'trophy'.  Proudly displayed with ALL our other awards!!! Tino tino pai!!!
