Celebrating our Healthy Heart Award 09/10

Wow!!  What a wonderful day had by all!!  We must thank our wonderful committee, in particular Emma Campbell who done most of the organising to make the event a success.
The morning children trundled over to the hall to excercise their hearts, and excercise them they did...Balancing, ball throwing, jumping and we can't forget commando crawling under the parachute.   A big thanks to Madison who demonstrated how to commando crawl in front of EVERYBODY!!  Wow Maddi, you are showing us how confident you can be!!  Well done :)
After all that excercise, Linda Harris from the heart foundation presented the award to Winton Kindergarten and Madison and Jake, our two oldest attendees accepted on our behalf (keep an eye out in the local paper for the photo).
Then for the highlght of the morning trip...our walk to 'Subway', and we sure had earnt it.  What a wonderful bunch of children we have, they were so patient and done an awesome job choosing their fillings and using their manners.  We were so proud!

Then, we got to do it all over again for the afternoon session.  It is so cool to be able to venture out of the kindergarten once in a while and we send out a BIG thanks to all our parent helpers for the day.  Without you guys, trips and excursions would not be possible and they provide such wonderful learning oppurtunities for your children.
And a big thanks to the children for excercising their hearts!!  Then it was back to Kindergarten for a shared afternoon tea...YUM!!  We had some very creative food bought along, well done.
The wonders of technology even enabled us to watch all the photos of the day on the big screen!!  How cool is that!!

Thanks again everybody, everyone had such an awesome time!\

Kylie and Judy.

What a hive of excitement both Judy and Kylie have expereinced as we have anticipated the arrival of our new, very hi tech, multi-media installation!! And today, we didn't have to wait any longer...It has been installed.
"It's like the movies" said Rylan as he went and got himself a chair and parked himself in front of the BIG screen!! No more squeezing around the small screen, pushing for a space at the front ... it is just so wonderful!!

We have noticed such a shift in how children learn...Visual is certainly the key. Children are SUCH visual learners.
Our television, stereo and VCR have all become obsolete and as we can now put everything through the multi-media set up.
You Tube has been a hit so if you have any videos that you think the children may like, let us know and we will play them. Today we have watched Takahe creeping around the forest & watched an orphan Kiwi being found, hatched & raised ... amazing. We are also able to play our new ICT initiative iDVD's on the big screen. Very very cool!!
Check out this mornings movie ... performed by 'Kiwi' group in front of Takahe group the Maori legend 'How Kiwi lost it's wings'. It was very exciting to be able to play back the movie to the children on the big screen!! Well done Acacia & Troy who performed famously in front of an audience ... and Rylan our Tanemahuta 'Guardian of the Forest' who lived & played the part so well (and remembered his lines) ... fantastic.
Wow, we are nearly famous!!

Cheers,
Kylie and Judy

Check out our hungry visitors!!

Frog vs Fly!! The children were absolutely fascinated with catching bugs for the frogs to feast on today!! Check out the clip...(Fingers crossed it works!)

Maybe you could go on a bug hunt at home...the more bugs bought into Kindergarten the better.

Cheers,
Judy and Kylie

WELCOME BACK EVERYONE

Wow 2010 - it seems not long ago we were welcoming in the new millennium ... my how time flies. Great to see everyone back and it's been great catching up with all the children's Xmas & holiday news.

A special welcome to all our new families. In saying that we would LOVE to see some new faces @ our AGM - keep 17 Feb 7pm pencilled into your diary. We have a number of existing committee members leaving and we need some new faces & ideas to fill those gaps. The roles within the committee have changed over the last few years ... albeit alot of the boring bits are now done by Judy, so committees can be more social (some parents are still talking about our van trip to the Cabbage Tree!!!). Some initiatives also, are to invite speakers to the Kindy (this year our thoughts were to invite along New Entrants teachers to talk about the Transition to School and I wondered if we could maybe invite Helen Campbell who works @ the College of Education who wrote a wonderful article in the Sthld Times last year on encouraging Literacy competencies). Something to think about ... Kindergarten is all about encouraging and supporting our families (who are an intrical part of what makes Kindergarten unique) ... so we do NEED your input !!! Also a BIG thanks to our committee for organising all the Xmas celebrations for the children at the end of the term. Check out the Term Slide show for some great pics of all our Term 4 happenings.

Parent Help roster ... choose a day that suits ... it is located by the Sign-In Desk. Thanks to Carmel Casey who has kindly volunteered to compile the roster ... and Margaret Scully who has kindly volunteered to check our Morning/Afternoon supplies each day. Thanks for that.
Sweeping roster ... choose a Friday that suits. Keeping our Kindy tidy & well kept creates a 'WOW" factor for not just the children & families but everyone. So PLEASE help out with the sweeping, when you can ... remember 'Many hands make light Work'. We hope to set a date for a working bee at our AGM - will keep you posted with a date.

Keep an eye out for ARTWORK around our Kindy walls (the elephant painting is pretty cool). Kylie Skeggs is an Invercargill artist and we asked if she could showcase some of her work ... of course she said YES. Some of you may have seen some of her work ... Kylie had her artwork displayed in Aqua on Winton Open Day.

We plan to e-mail our newsletter out to everyone ... let us know if you don't receive it (we may not have your current e-mail address).

We have some new visitors to Kindy ... some caterpillars & tadpoles. The children are always fascinated with metamorphosis ... and all the life-cycle changes so check them all out.

We have LOTS of Worm Juice for sale ... great for every ones Veggie & Flower garden. $2 a jar - all proceeds go towards our Morning/Afternoon Tea fund.
