Term 4 Week 6

Forest Kindy
A big thanks to Craig Reed and Mike Crowe our Parent Helpers this week. We had a great time at the Troll Bridge where Tingah-Bell and Casey fished for "Troll Snot" and at the Dragons Nest and Kindy Castle where Craig and the group buried children under the fallen leaves to make our own hatching dragons and monsters. Mike was our champion "hider" for hide and seek - becoming part of the forest floor disguised by his camo gear - what a fun morning! To top off our day we collected sticks for our Obelisk that the Discovery Time children had made prototypes for in the past few weeks. We started to build our Obelisk then finished it off back at Kindy. This is to help our Winton Flower Show prize winning - Sweet Peas ... we now wait to see if our design will work - watch this space!

Baking
On Tuesday the Discovery Time group made Double Chocolate Fudge Brownie for our special visitors that would be coming to our Kindy that evening for a Provisionally Registered Teachers -Visual Arts Workshop. On Wednesday we made Red Velvet Cupcakes for the children - delicious! And again more Brownie, this time for the Parent Group Meeting that night. Lots of mathematical and scientific concepts at work - measuring, mixing, and creating!! Along with a wonderful appreciation of 'Giving' ... And yes Sarah Crowe the teachers LOVED our Chocolate Fudge Brownies!

Bravery
On from our attendance at the Armistice Day Service at Anzac Oval last week we revisited our learning this week by discussing with the Discovery Time Group: "What does it mean to be Brave?" The children shared times that they have been brave and put these down on paper.  We also introduced the Dictaphone and recorded each others contributions - we had a lot of fun replaying our voices!!

Amazing Me DVD 3
This week we have watched part 3 of our Amazing Me Programme. This week we have been looking at families, the importance of seeking help and what to do in an emergency. We will be watching DVD 4 next week and DVD 5 in Week 8. Week 9 will plan to have our Amazing Me/Super Heroes Parties on the 10th and 11th of December...More information to follow closer to the time.

Term 4 Week 5

Armistice Day
On Tuesday we went to Anzac Oval to take part in the Armistice Day service at 11am, marking the end of WW1. The children had their faces painted with red poppies, wore poppies over their hearts, and we made a wreath at Kindy as well as James Shaw bringing one along to lay at the Memorial Gates. The Southland Times were there and we made the front page of Wednesday's paper. Over the week the group watched footage of WW1, had big discussions about war and soldiers, and revisited our learning on Wednesday at Story Time where the children retold their day and illustrated their stories in our big book. We talked about what bravery meant...Isaac Ellis shared: "You don't like being here but you need to stay there." We plan to go into this more during Discovery Time next week. A big thanks to our helpers. Did you receive a smilebox for this?? Send me an email if you didn't get it please.

Forest Kindy
Thanks to our helpers this week Greg Wright and Petra Laughton. We headed to the Troll Bridge and collected treasures for making Xmas decorations later in the term, followed by morning tea, before heading back to kindy for 11am.

Growing our own
This week we have been busy planting lettuce seeds, hanging tomato plants, and strawberries. We have to keep a close eye on our four-legged friend Rupert who is quite fond of our new plants...What a rascal you are!!

And a warm welcome to Callum Lyall and family who join our TF Group this week.

Parent Group Meeting next Wednesday night.
