Term 2 Week 6

Love this quote ... short week this week, hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend!

Taiao Tuhura

The seasons are upon us - Winter is nigh!  EVERYONE was rugged up this week - including Kaiako & Parent Helpers - Rachel Legg & Brett Frew.  Parent Help is essential in supporting our Taiao Tuhura - Nature Discovery programme & with that EVERY Parent 'brings to the programme' some very authentic skills.  Emily Frew's Dad - Brett - was no exception this week -  sharing his authentic hunter/gatherer prowess ...

Lots of harekeke - weaving throughout the morn - that over/under over/under continues to be very mesmeric but the repetition is proving to be a very 'hands-on' kinesthetic learning regime.

We are still excitedly finding LOTS of Winton Rocks ... Rocks - what an incredible Community Project this continues to be.

Finding nests that have fallen without their leafy support, is also a very tangible opportunity to take a closer look @ how intricate the whole 'nest making' process is - woven with remnants, without the privledge of fine motor skills of little fingers - impressive indeed.

Travelling around Africa (Judy) we were continually AMAZED by HUGE Weaver bird nests ... alive with the comings & goings of all the 'Aves' (Scientific name for birds). Weaving, as such, dates back  100,000 - 500,000 years ago - neolithic cultures evolved this ancient form of 'Texentes subtilise' from basic to increasingly complex patterns & prowess!  Maybe even weavers, all those thousands of years ago were inspired by the very same woven nest patterns that Zain & Hunter L have found, & were fascinated by, this week!

Morning Tea on the 'Rocket' (fallen log) - why not - & an appreciative revisit to our Taki Waka - yep GREAT morn!
A farewell to Hunter Legg from both Taiao Tuhura & Kindy - Happy schooldays Hunter L!

We also have NEW wet weather gear for our Taiao Tuhura participants - a BIG tks to Kindergartens South for kindly supplying these 'Mum2Mum' waterproof overalls & coats!

Naililili Cathedral School (Suva) Care Package

Care-Package has arrived ... tks for ALL your kind donations (end of year).  I'm sure all the learning resources (and those of St Thomas's Aquinas School) have been hugely appreciated.

Welcome to all our Special Guests

A warm welcome to our Parliamentary Guests - Hamish Walker (MP for Clutha & Paula Bennett Deputy Leader - National Party) & also to Nikki McRobie our new Kindergartens South General Manager - today.

Phillipines Independence Day -  Maligayang Araw ng Kalayaan

In celebrating this special day next week (Wed) our Filipino families have kindly offered to share some authentic Filipino food with us all - food continues to be the international coming together of culture & cultures.

Connect & Being Connected

Shared in some Brain Research info recently ... very insightful!

Keep warm --- see you all next week.
