Term 1 Week 5
Wow it has been fantastic to have some warm days return to Winton. The Tamariki sure have made the most of our outdoor space exploring, jumping, climbing, balancing, sliding, swinging, diggings splashing, discovering and wondering!! Multiple avenues to play and learn with and alongside each other.
This week began with us in Covid_19 Level 2 so a few changes were made to ensure the health and safety of our Kindy Community. Thank you to all of our whanau support during this time, our tamariki transitioned back into our new Level 2 routine seamlessly. Lucky our team of 5 million + under the guidance of our government have hopefully stopped the spread of Covid_19 which began in Auckland as we returned to Level 1 on Thursday. Ka mau te wehi!!
Kai Routine Change
This week we have also made a permanent change to our lunch time routine from Monday15th February
‘Morning Kai & Lunch’ Routine Change
Kia Ora koutou
We continue
to reflect on the kawa of our day, along with considering the implementation of
the recent 2020 - Ministry of Health Food-Related Choking Regulations. To achieve best food related practices &
learning outcomes for our tamariki we have made the following changes to our
daily routine: lunch time routines will
now begin at 12.30pm.
Tamariki
attending: 8.30-12.30pm - will continue to have their morning kai and will no longer be
required to have a packed lunch.
This allows our tamariki more time & space to immerse themselves in
uninterrupted play & learning.
Tamariki
attending 8.30-2.30pm - will continue with their usual morning kai routine & now have their
lunch at the later time of 12.30pm.
Having lunch at this new time will promote an unhurried & positive
lunch process.
Changes
will begin Monday 15 February 2021. If you have any
queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask.
Your
Teaching Team.
We have found that the tamariki have adapted seamlessly into this new routine and thoroughly enjoying the unhurriedness and uninterrupted mornings with and alongside each other.
Ivy Russell Art Project
With our approaching annual community Autumn Flower Show and Southland A&P Show we have been brainstorming ideas of how & what we can contribute to show case of wonderful & talented tamariki and Kindy community. With our local treasured reserve which Winton Kindy has a special relationship with as Kaitiaki and advocates we thought a sculpture of Miss Ivy Russell would be truly special and unique to not only Winton Kindy but our community as well.
Winton Kindergarten has been running the Taiao Tuhura program since 2013 in Ivy Russell Reserve. Winton Kindy's evolving relationship and kinship with the reserve has strengthened considerably over time whether your a part of the 10 whanau who attend Taiao Tuhura or not. We have a strong ethos at Kindy surrounding Kaitiaki values and a part of that is for our tamariki to share their knowledge, discoveries, stories, drawings, photos, and wonderings about their time at Ivy Russell Reserve with their Kindy community. This creates a beautiful relationship with the tamariki and Ivy Russell Reserve before they even get to join our Taiao Tuhura group.
So if you know where to find or have any knowledge or photos to share about Miss Ivy Russell please let us know:)
The World of Whales
This week we received a special produced by 'Project Jonah New Zealand' with a number of resources surrounding whales. Inside there are charts about all of the different types of Dolphins and Whales we have in Aotearoa, what happens when a whale is stranded, how to keep them safe, migration paths and so much more!! Matua Kaiako Judy introduced this to the tamariki on Tuesday and shared a youtube clip as she and the tamariki discussed whales and how special they are!

If you have any information, passion and/or knowledge on whales please let us know!
Taiao Tuhura
The morning at Ivy Russell Reserve was spent off track "going bush"! What a wonderful way to make new discoveries!! The Taiao Tuhura team lead Kaiako and helpers through the 'off beaten track' along their path they found fantails, baby ferns, sawed tree logs, insects a newly discovered "baby Sleeping Kiwi" and some intriguing curled bark. All of these discoveries fostered wonderment and our connection to Ivy Russell Reserve.
Our Taiao Tuhura group also spent a lot of time exploring the "Monkey Tree". With a few new and unfamiliar tamariki Gus and Andy kindly shared and demonstrated the best techniques to use when climbing this majestic rakau.
Thanks Gus and Andy what great competent and confident leaders you are!!
Nau Mihi Whanau, enjoy the sunshine!!
