Term 4 Week 4

1..2..3..AMAZING ME!!

Amazing Me programme continues ...  our AMAZING tamariki have been learning rules around how to keep ourselves safe - "Stop - Think and Act."

Rosa shared during our group korero that if she got lost, she could tell a police officer 'safe person' her Mum's cell phone number -tumeke Rosa!!

Claire said, "You need to look for cars" especially when crossing the road.

If there was an emergency, Ebony said, "I know my neighbours name, Colin, he could help if Dad couldn't." Perfect!

AMAZING!! Thanks for sharing your "Safe Place" at home. We've printed them out to share with everyone - keep them coming! Safe - What does that mean?  Safe from ... fire, earthquake or an emergency.  What is an emergency?

Amazing Me - Family?

Also this week we've explored how diverse & unique families are.  The clay table made for great whanau sculpting & discussions - who are the people that make up our whanau... pets - absolutely - pets are part of our whanau too!!

Armistice Day

We took an 'ecolense' on Armistice Day and paid tribute for our brave soldiers by planting our poppy seeds.  We look forward to hearing from Ivy who will be attending Armistice Day with her Nan, Joan (Sunday 11am - Anzac Oval).

Taiao Tuhura - Forest Kindy

A warm welcome to Celine who has joined the Taiao Tuhura group this week.  Stories were shared of all the benefits of working together to get the stream 'working.' SO many sticks were moved  to allow the water to flow ... who doesn't enjoy puddling in a creek?

Kaitiakitanga Investigations Continues - Where have the Tui gone?

On Wednesday we decided it was time to plant our Kowhai trees that we had received from Paper 4 Trees for our recycling efforts.  "Why are we planting Kowhai trees!?"  "To entice Tui to 'Our Place!"  We now wonder what else we can do to help our Kowhai trees to grow tall & strong..stay tuned for next weeks blog!

Thanks 'Explorers Group' for planting our 'magic' flower seeds!

Naililili Cathedral School 'Care Package'

Teresa Jarvis (St Thomas's School Principal) and ex-kindy kids - Angus McRae & Libby Jespersen - popped in during the week to find out more about our 'Give-a-little' to Rupeni's Uncle's school in Suva Fiji.  A massive thank you to the Moss whanau who have sorted through LOADS of educational puzzles and donated them on Friday.  We need your help to fill the 'Care Package' barrel (by the fish tank) with more pens, pencils, books & educational posters etc!

End of an Era!

On Friday we wished Limehills Students; Caitlin & Cameron a happy birthday along with a fond  farewell to all the SVA (Student Volunteer Army) from Limehills School.   We've had the pleasure of having Annalise, Brook, Caitlin & Cameron join us each Friday morning as part of the Limehills School Citizenship.  What better way to say thanks, than to share - CAKE!  Sophie, Jack K & Evie presented the cake, on everyone's behalf.  All the best guys as you head off to local High Schools & Colleges - do us proud!

Another busy week. Have an awesome weekend everyone!

Term 4 Week 3

Amazing Me Eco-Portraits

Hi ho hi ho ... it's off to Limehills Pet Show we go.

Sun, pets, children's projects & an opportunity for Parents to have a look around our local schools.  We visited Lochiel School @ the end of Term 3 & on Monday we were @ Limehills School.

BIG day out!!!

Thanks for inviting us along Limehills School - it was a privilege to be a part of your day (ran exclusively by the Year 8 class).

1,2,3 Amazing Me

This week we introduced the 4/5 week programme in the appreciation of who we are & where we come from ...
Ina kei to mohio koe ko wai koe, I anga mai loe I hea, kei to mphio koe, kei ti anga atu ki hea.
If you know who you are & where you are from, then you will know where you              are going.

It's a delightful audio-visual series to equip children to become more aware of themselves & their own
capabilities - narrated by Suzy Catto.
It was compiled by NZ Police; Child Youth & Families (Vulnerable Children);
Children's Issues Centre & Public Health (DHB).
DVD 1 was the classical ... washing, drying & dressing - an eco-awareness of ourselves!                   Check our these self portraits ...

DVD 2 - next week.

Taiao Tuhura
A farewell to our Taiao Tuhura eco-warriors - Rupeni & Andi - who were leaders today.

Our Investigation continues ... Where have the Tui gone?
Welcome back Rachel!
Where are you Tui?  The Kowhai is in full bloom!
And just as we had given up, we heard the distinctive Tui birdsong in the bluegums. Tui have returned to the Reserve!!!
Eco-adventures made & shared ... a pond! A muddy pond.  Now how do you cross a muddy pond?

Team work ... of course.  Hold on tight & Archie will help.
We continue to find taonga (treasures) throughout the Reserve ... who put them there & why?
Our Taiao Tuhura days continue to create intrigue, eco-awareness & groupness. Along with
the rain on our face, the dirt on our hands & all the adventures that abound  ... nature & naturedness is everywhere to be found!

Naililili Cathedral School (Suva) 'Care Package'

Eco-empathetic.  The Koro's - Becks, Will, Rupeni & Phoebe returned home (Suva) earlier on in the year.  Rupeni shared with us he spent some of his days @ school with his Uncle (teacher).  The         school in essence is bereft of many of the resources we take for granted.  We wonder ... have you any excess books (reading & exercise), notebooks, notepads, pencils, posters to share.  Pop them into our 'Care Package' barrel beside the fish tank.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho ... it's off to Winton/St Thomas Schools Pet Show we go! What will we see?  Who will we see?  Lambs, dogs, cats, guinea pigs, lobsters ... pets galore!  We even noticed the Judges (in their white coats) talking to all the children & sharing their Pet Diaries - what's a Pet Diary?  It was also a wonderful opportunity for Parents to have a good look around some of our local schools.

Great day out!  Tks to all our Parent Helps who could come along - can't do it without your help!

Have a GREAT weekend.  See you all next week.                                                                                       The Teaching Team.
