I wonder where do shadows come from?

We have spent a neat Tue afternoon ... chasing shadows.  And we pondered the question 'I wonder where shadows come from?'  Some thoughts were shared;  Sam thought '... from the ground', Archie thought ' ... from the Sky' but Bryant said " ... no because the sky was so BIG and how could it make our pictures on the ground?"  We had a lot of deliberation, we drew around our shadows, we moved from inside to outside and watched our shadow disappear. Wow like MAGIC !!!
What an amazing phenomenon shadows are, they are fascinating & the children have been very very intrigued. Sam, Bryant, Eva, Matthew & Ella decided to experiment with shadows; we drew around our kindy wheelbarrow and came back later to find the wheelbarrow still in the same place ... but the shadow had moved.  We left the children to ponder this phenomenon, until the end of the day when we talked about the fact that shadows need a 'light source' ... and in this case it was the sun.  Here is a challenge can you find any shadows around home?  Let us know ...

And another other amazing light source we have been experimenting with this week has been the Data Projector.  We projected onto the back wall the story 'Going on a Bear Hunt' - sourced from YouTube.  Wow the children stomped there way through a real wheat field, rowed over a real river and into a real cave with REAL eyes.  Log onto YouTube and see if you can find it ... let us know.

Have a great week ... See you all @ Kindy Thur night @ 7pm.

I wondered where the shadow comments came from the other day when Archie & I were in town! We were playing in the park on the balancing logs & he suddenly said "Look my shadow is nearly as tall as yours" - now it all makes sense :-)
