Ecological Awareness
Jack Howard's 'Avocado Investigation' continues to intrigue us! It was back in May when this intrigue led us to investigate how to propagate an avocado.
Now look what's happened ... we have a REAL avocado vine - ready to plant!
Investigations over time allow us to recognise the changes, celebrate the distinctiveness & question the uniqueness! Now Jack do you think we can ... one day ... pick an avocado from your vine?
Millie Price has immortalised the wonders of Spring & Summer with her ecoliterate representation of a 'Bloomin' peony!

Fairy Fairy intriguing ...
Wow ... look what has mystically arrived @ Kindy this week. Our ecological Guardians of the Forest (Kaitiakitanga) has now been redistributed from Forest Kindy to Kindy.
Tks to Ashar Sinclair for continuing this intrigue (story making & story telling) back @ Kindy through this kind gift. Also tks to Cam (Christina's partner) for his technical skills in installing this very unique 'fairy door'! And tks to Georgia Wylie for the signage. Let the tales continue ...
Forest Kindy
Again a great morning @ the Reserve. This week Rachel was away (in Sydney) & Antonia joined Christina in sharing the local flora & fauna of Ivy Russell Reserve. It was a great opportunity for our nga tamariki to show Antonia around. Our Forest Kindy leaders this week were Liam & Blake. It was an opportunity for Liam & Blake to take ownership of the group - tks boys!Look ... wolf prints. The wolf has returned ... but where is he? Imagery & imagination continues to intrigue nga tamariki ... in this naturalistic playscape!

Now I wonder who the Troll was under the bridge this week? |
This mythical story provided a wonderful invitation to look to where the sky meets the sea. It's a fusion of song, dance, puppets, Te Reo Maori & English. Songs of the Sea - Waiata o te Moana unfolded the mysteries & myths of where the first fish came from.
Colourful & sparkly puppets (by Sue Hill) along with catchy music by (Stephen Gallagher) weaved together four stories of the deep blue sea. Te Ika Ra (the lonely sun fish) & Te Ika Marama (the bright moon fish) are two of the most colourful characters.
But oh my word ... ask your child about 'The Shaper'. Now that was a story that had tamariki totally immersed in!
Nga Tamariki were mesmerised for 45 mins, by not only the mastery of the puppetry but also by the mysticalness of the Civic Theatre - what an auspicious building. Thank you Capital E for travelling the length of NZ so all tamariki of Aotearoa have the opportunity to participate in LIVE theatrical performances of this calibre. Kia Kaha.
The set & props were amazing! |
Amazing Me: DVD Two
This week we focus on learning about 'Keeping Ourselves Safe'. A 'catchy' Maori waiata (titiro whakarongo) is shared acknowledging the need to take care when crossing roads. Stop, Think, Act & Decide is introduced (check out our own rendition of this 'catchy' rap song which we have videoed & shared on our FB page) & our emergency number 111 was also introduced along with a provoking question - What is an emergency? Thanks to Toby Langford & Blake Henry for sharing your 'Safe Places' @ your home. Keep you pics coming in ... Christina & Antonia have created an 'Amazing Me' display - check it out! At the end of the DVD the 'We Are A Family' - sock puppet family - were welcomed. It is within an appreciation of both the immediate & extended family & how important a safe and supportive family environment is for our well-being! We look forward to viewing more of the 'Sock Family' next week. Some 'hands on' learning experiences, introduced from viewing last weeks DVD ...
Oops ... I think there's somehting missing! |
