Flanders Field - Growing our own Poppies
Acknowledging and remembering the contributions made by New Zealanders with our Armistice Day Poppy Cultivation. This week we were so excited to notice shoots beginning to grow from the soil in our pottles! We will keep these at Kindy for now and wait in anticipation for what is to come!
1 2 3 AMAZING ME!
This week we introduced the Contribution DVD with the group. Thank you to whanau who have 'contributed' a family pic on our Facebook page!
'Contribution' conversations have got the Teaching Team thinking about some of the ways we share what we do in our daily rituals and routines at Kindy, and areas where we may need to further articulate these values with whanau...
With an ecological lens, we are conscious of our wastage and the environmental impact of this. Particularly our morning tea and lunch food scraps. We'd love for whanau to utilise these for their hens/pigs or compost! Please let us know if you are able to collect our food scraps so that these don't end up in landfill.
We are also aware of the impact plastic has on the eco-systems. We have been purposefully collecting all soft plastics ready for donation to the Plastic recycling centre at Winton New World. The kete needs to be deposited on a weekly basis...if you see it is full - please lend a helping hand and empty in at New World on kindy's behalf! Thank you to Ebony for taking the soft plastics this week.
Speaking of 'Contribution', this week the Winton Kindergarten Parent Group have extended an invitation to all our Amazing Kindy families, to join us for The End of Year Family Night to be held on the 4th of December so please do RSVP for this event at Kindy. As always the success of these family nights rely on the support of our whanau.
***Please let us know if you are able to help out cooking the sausages on the BBQ on the evening - we will have a couple of BBQs going so 6-8 Dads would be great!***
And a big thank you to Kindergartens South for contributing to the cost of our sausage sizzle tea.
Kitchen Volunteers - Thank you for your 'Contribution'!
A big thank you for the continued support of our Kindy Kai ritual! The children relish sharing the day with our whanau, enjoying the healthy, abundant morning teas and lunches that whanau prepare. As we learn about respecting our self and others in our Amazing Me Programme, we are sharing ways to keep our self happy and healthy - which of course involves a nutritious and delicious diet - something we value all children benefiting from here at Kindy.
Thank you to Sue Bower, Archie's Mum, for being the 'Food Co-Ordinator' - purchasing all the beautiful fruit, vegetables, and groceries for all tamariki each week.
Thank you to Skylar's whanau Jasmine and Clayton for your contributions on Monday, not only preparing our kai, but sharing stories with the group, helping in the Project Room, playing outside AND taking Rupert to VetSouth for some TLC.
Taiao Tuhura
Thank you to our many Parent Helpers who support our weekly Discovering Nature Programme at the local Ivy Russell Reserve. 'Contributing' your time, skill and knowledge of the natural world around us further enhances the rich normality that our time in nature brings - ka pai to mahi.
Fiji Care Package - thank you to families who have already 'contributed' to the cause. The barrel will remain at Kindy until the end of the year, where items donated will be parcelled and posted..."The Season of Giving".
Explorers Group (Thur/Fri)
The Explorers Group have had a wonderful time exploring the natural elements outside, with a day full of warmth and sun and a day filled with the calming sound of rain!! We love exploring outside in all types of weather!
Thanks to our eco warrior Jussi who noticed our Poppies needed a drink of water so he kindly took them outside and into the rain! What a great sustainable resource, using rain to nurture our poppies - just the way nature intended :)
Inside has been busy with creative play through different mediums including constructive, imaginary, and natural resources. Thanks Alex for 'contributing' your marble provocation to create a morning filled of marble painting in the project room. This play has provided a wonderful opportunity for tamariki to converse with their peers and explore colour. Our art table contiues to be a great spot for nag tamariki to create with a focus on nature. These natural resources inspire ideas as the tamariki explore the different qualities of the cones, petals, sticks and leaves provided while constructing their own masterpiece.- What a great way to be eco literate!!
Thank you to our resident photographer Megan Graham who was snapping some beautiful pics of our tamariki on Wednesday and Thursday!! Check the link on our Winton Kindergarten Closed Group FB page & Megan Graham Photography FB page to purchase.
**Just a reminder the Ministry of Education Review Office (ERO) will be with us Tuesday (after session) and Wednesday - Lets show them how awesome Winton Kindy is!!!
See you next week,
Your Winton Kindy Team :)
