Our metamorphosis journey continues with the hatching of six of our chyrallis ... one to go!
We have even researched to find out more ... how do you identify the gender of our 'Papilio' (Latin for butterfly) visitors.
Our Monday gathering was an opportunity to discuss not only metamorphosis but how to care for our Monarch's - sugar water. And today (Friday) we researched & found out we could also introduce watermelon as a food source!
Artists & Artistry ...
We have some budding artists share their skill this week ... a landscape portrait by Charlie McPherson along with the ancient textural art media of frottage (rubbing). Leaf impressions, elevations & depressions seem to magically appear. A wonderful naturalistic art media which fits & sits so well with our ecological focus!
Tairoa Heads - Albatross colony
Lots of tamariki have noticed many of the 'comings & goings' @ Taiaroa Heads (Otago Penninsula - Albatross Colony) this week. The live webcam is such an interactive interface - it seems to stop tamariki & whanau in their tracks. Today we have noticed MANY& varied adult birds & we even got an 'up close & personal' glimpse of the chick. Hard to believe that this chick will grow to have a wing span of over 3 metres! Remember you can also click on the DOC link @ home & also watch ... here's a neat fact to share: The Albatross is a large bird that can go years without landing. They spend their first 6 years of life flying over the ocean without every touching the ground. Share a fun fact with us in the comments ...Community Consultation
Just a reminder ... share your Postit with us on our Consultation board - have a read of our Consultation Statement & share with us what you value along with what makes Winton Kindy (pioneers of Early Childhood Education in Winton) such a community entity!Fun Run on Sunday ... get out your walking/running shoes & join in - or pop to Invercargill Fire Station for Children's Day - both on Sunday 3 Mar 2019.
Kia Kaha ... see you all next week!
