Term 3 Week 8

Wig Wednesday

It was a sea of colourful wigs & funky hair styles on Wednesday. A fabulous effort on behalf of everyone, displaying our manakitangi for our community & Child Cancer Foundation - Wig Wednesday Fundraiser. We continue to promote children's citizenship through our participation in community and national initiatives, beautifully depicting our Curriculum Design focus for 2020 around inclusion and 'the collective' that is the Winton Kindy learning community. Below is a link to the donations page where you will find our Winton Kindy team, if you and your family would like to contribute. Wig Wednesday Donations - Donations collected at Kindy have been banked & will hopefully display today or early next week.

Taiao Tuhura - Nature Discovery Programme

Yay, back at the Reserve today on this beautiful morning, a lovely way to welcome Gus and Andy to the group. Thanks to Charleen and Beau for leading us 'Colin's Rimu Tree' (still standing!), the monkey tree, Takitimu Waka, and along further to spy Beau's brother's hut...somewhere we plan to revisit next time! Thanks to Michaela our resident photographer, and guardian Maci for protecting the group from behind.

Tongan Language Week

Timo SOO proudly shared more of his family’s Tongan Tapa with everyone.  We researched & discovered Tonga Tapa often have fish & plants representations within the designs/patterns – some similarity with Samoan Tapa too.  With closer inspection we were able to identify starfish, flowers, rainbows, leaves and Ben's 'Rere Sword!'  We continue to explore how symbols, patterns & designs can depict culture, heritage & knowledge.

GJ Gardner Homes - Keep New Zealand Beautiful - Clean Up Week 7-13 September

Participating in Clean Up Week has empowered our Kaitiaki/Guardians of the land, into action & collecting rubbish, helping protect our birds, bugs, plants, trees, flowers, land... our ecosystem!  We've been most concerned after discovering a bird's nest with woven plastic in it!  Our Kaitiaki continue to discover their small efforts are tremendously important - if everyone does a little it can make a big difference!  Kaitiaki wore their 'Keep NZ Beautiful' badges proudly upon their chest with a sense of achievement, knowing they've helped protect birds from eating/collecting rubbish.

No plastic in these nests!!
Thankfully our tamariki have helped ensure no rubbish will collected by birds around Kindy.

We've got stuck in the garden & tiding up our flowers & veggies.  We even sowed some sweet pea seeds!

Next week we consider further exploring bird nest making for our art entry in the Winton Spring Flower Show.  We're also registered to take part in Maori Language Week - Kia Kaha Te Reo Maori!

Nga mihi
The Teaching Team
