Term 1 Week 6

Programme - exploring water play!

A big thank you to Gemma and Brett from our Winton Kindergarten Parent Group for cutting and clearing away the space behind the sandpit. This week the children have pieced together a cascading water feature, moving our waterplay from the sandpit to becomes its own separate entity, and along with that, challenging our ideas and imaginations around what is possible! Exploring concepts of design and constructing, gravity, hydrology, volume, speed, transportation...hands on with our learning and meaning-making!

Taiao Tuhura - sharing our nature programme with the wider community - kotahitanga

This week we welcomed our visitors from Hedgehope School, fitting alongside our Curriculum Design focus for 2021 - kotahitanga. Nine Hedgehope School students along with their teacher Lisa McCracken and parent helpers shared a morning at Ivy Russell Reserve with us, as they come to consider their own relationship with the natural world and build their kete of knowledge around the ethos of a nature programme in their own setting. We loved reconnecting with ex-Kindy kid Blaire Johnston, who could share with everyone the magic from her Forest Kindy Days. Our Winton Kindy kids took on the responsibilities of taking care of our visitors through our Buddy System - a tuakana-teina role reversal.

Winton Autumn Flower Show - I am a part of the community, the community is a part of me - kotahitanga!

A coming together and hybrid of ideas have brought to life our Winton Kindgergarten Group Project entry into the Flower Show. Planting the seed for a possible line of inquiry, holding space and not having in mind a pre-determined outcome, has led to the transformation of an Ivy Russell focused scarecrow/representation, to a representation of the Atua Tangaroa. This representation is the culmination of the beginnings of our inquiry focus around the Atua Tangaroa - you may have noticed the paua welcoming you on arrival at Kindy and overheard the sounds of the ocean playing throughout Kindy. Be sure to head along to the Memorial Hall over the weekend to view our entry alongside all the other entries, flowers, baking and crafts shared by the wider Central Southland Community.
