Term 1 Week 8

SEA  WEEK

Smell the sea, & feel the sky.  Let your soul & spirit fly!!!

A story worth sharing - posted on our Winton Kindergarten Closed Group FaceBook page.
The lighter penguin is an elderly female whose partner died this year. The darker one is a younger male who lost his partner two years ago. Biologists have followed them as they meet every night to comfort each other. They stand for hours together watching the lights. Photographer Tobias Baumgaertner captured this image of two widowed fairy penguins looking over the Melbourne skyline. It has won an award in Oceanographic magazine’s Ocean Photography Awards 2020.

We've been entranced by the meanderings of Sea Turtles on our BIG Screen this week.  The wonders of the UnderSea world emblazoned onto our back wall with subtle & mesmerising sonnet.

Guided by The Hundred Languages (A Hundred Ways in which tamariki express themselves) we  introduced to the Light Box Playscape - Sand Art. Opportunities to kinestically weave the 'toi' of ocean waves & creatures.

Taonga from the Sea

Keep on bringing all those taonga (treasures) ... there's NOTHING like an 'up close & personal' approach in investigating the 'wonders of our world'.  Hunter brought in a shark jaw last week & this week a perfectly intact skeletal framework of a seahorse.  Where did it come from Hunter?  We popped it under the computer microscope in the Project Room ... there are literally 'hundreds' of bones in that tail!!!

And all the way from Kaiteriteri were these precious shells - tks Alex Wylie for sharing your holiday adventure & treasures with us.

Maori Legends

Tangaroa guided us through our Autumn Flower Show Art entry & it continues with Maori legends - shared through narrative & pictorially!  Maui Catches the Sun is requested MOST days.

Tamraiki korero has also intrigued/intriguing us ... Andy Ferris 'Maui isn't being very kind to the sun'. What a wonderful sense of righteousness Andy!  Emersyn Bradley:  'My Dad likes fishing ... if the sun went toooooooo fast across the sky there's NO time for fishing'!   An appreciation of resilence & possibilities - Emersyn.
Various versions have been shared - 'Why are they different?'  Great question - different ideas, different perceptions - or maybe it's the 'storyteller'!!!

We've also introduced Sand Art Maori legends guided through our iPad.

Another intriguing story we've introduced today is 'Pounamu's Stones' by Dot Meharry & illustrated by Bruce Potter.

Thanks for a GREAT week everyone ... have a neat weekend!  Kia Kaha.
