POLYFEST - WAKA PROJECT
The children arrived back after the long weekend to discover a washed up waka had beached intself in our Project Room! Hidden under a blanket of hessian, the children explored its shape and pondered over how it came to be at Kindy and what it could become with our efforts! The Discovery Time children shared their thoughts, combining their new-found knowledge of waka - lots of Google-ing of images, videos and information, with what was presented in front of them. We talked about what a waka is made from, how it operates (wind and paddling - no motors!), the "Pointy thing at the back"/decorative stern, and its many uses. With this in mind, the wider group now have the task ahead of them of creating our own waka for our Polyfest Art entry.

St Thomas School Celebration of Learning
A great day down at one of our local school's catching up with ex-Winton Kindy children. The students shared with us their learning, reading to us and showing us their maths books. We then went outside with the iPads, and using an app we were able to see the stars - sooo cool! With Matariki just around the corner both the students at School and us here at Kindy are learning about Matariki and this special time of year. We were also awarded with certificates for the top 6 place getters in last weeks Cross Country - a proud moment for us all.
