A BIG warm welcome to our Thur, Fri group Bevan Shaw & the Shaw family.

POLYFEST 2016
We are all but ready for our BIG 2016 Polyfest kapa haka performance on Tue 30 Aug @ 11.45am - Stadium Southland.  Mon,Tue,Wed families - if you haven't signed the permission slip ... please do so on Monday.   It will indeed be a BIG day ... everyone is sooooo excited.  We head down to St Thomas's School on Monday for our final dress rehearsal!

LUCAS CAMPBELL'S POLYFEST WAKA TRIBUTE
Our Polyfest Waka has indeed captivated Lucas.  So much so that Lucas choreographed his own story line complete with narrative & illustrations.

FOREST KINDY
Forest Kindy this week provided a continuum from last week with children's bark etchings.  It provided a very organic & naturalistic way to share 'bark etching' gifts as thank-you & goodbye tributes to Carol.

It was Carol's last Forest Kindy with us this on Tuesday.  A BIG tks Carol.  Rachel Evans joins us (Tue 6 Sept) as our new Forest Kindy reliever.

The Puzzle Tree continues to intrigue both the teachers & children ... check out the inner sanctums of this amazing tree.

And this week the children have had the opportunity to choose & share their images. What images provoke children's intrigue? Is it the calmness of this naturalistic playscape that seems to provoke a mindfulness provoking children to select images more purposefully! Hmmm ... interesting indeed!

FAREWELL - to Pouroa ... now THAT's a great selfie.  Pouroa heads off to Winton School.  Happy Schooldays Pouroa!

DAFFODIL DAY - 26 Aug 2016

It's been a day of  social identity shared in an empathetic appreciation of the significance of Daffodil Day. Helping others that are sooooooo sick.

'The doctors might give the sick people some medicine.  That will help them get better' Isla Langford.

Tks for sharing your 'yellow' coin donation with us everyone!  We raisied $60. Mon, Tue, Wed families ... we will leave the donation box on the kai table next week if you would also like to make a kind donation. We will pass on all our donations to the Sthld Cancer Society.

POLYFEST PERFORMANCE - DRESS REHEARSALS UNDERWAY!
This week nga tamariki from our MTW Group had our first full dress rehearsal - wow don't the new Kakahaka Kakahu/Polyfest Uniforms look AMAZING!! Notices re our trip to Invercargill to perform on the 30th of August will be out on Monday. This is a huge day for us and we are so proud of all the children for their efforts. We will be visiting the Southland Museum & Art Gallery to see our Waka on display alongside all the other Polyfest Art Finalists. Everyone is warmly encouraged to pop along and support us, we will be onstage at 11:45am approx. - gold coin entry into the Stadium.

ECOLOGICAL IDENTITY
'Titiro mai! He aha tenei' is one of our Polyfest songs which has a wonderful ecological awareness of  our Te aitanga pepeke - the insect world.    Jaclyn McIntyre this week has represented - from the song/story - ngata - snail through the wonderful kinestethic & naturalisticness  of clay!!!

Jaclyn's representation of He ngata (snail) tena!

FOREST KINDY
The group headed off the beaten track and embarked on an adventure of discovery and wonder...the pink "Puzzle Tree" and the Monkey's Nest (that we sat under to eat our morning tea).
Can you help us?? We are investigating what type of tree we have found
We wonder...Who lives in this house??
Raiden and Lilly take a closer look...We wonder what they will find?!?
Cooper driving his American Mustang Ute through the mud...see below!

CHARLIE'S WOLF SPIDER
Move over Rudd Kleinspaste - Winton Kindy has the next "Bug Man" identity - Charlie Hawkins! Charlie's representation of the wolf spiders ... 'googly eyes' is indeed distinctively captured in his portrait.

COOPER'S AMERICAN MUSTANG
Recently, Cooper and his Dad headed off on a boys trip...to Wellington to pick up a new truck and boat! Ever since this special weekend, we have heard LOTS of engines and 4WD-ing around the tracks outside. Cooper's strong petrol-head identity has become iconic within his group of peers, and now the wider MTW Group have climbed onboard for the ride! Mud racing at Forest Kindy for our 4WD Kings and Queens made for some serious scrubbing of the wet weather gear at home later that evening!

Cooper sharing his American Mustang Ute photos with us

ROSS & RAEWYN - WINTON LIBRARY...Last Friday the children decided to take on the identities of  Local Library Sensation "Ross and Raewyn" during Te Wananga time - playing instruments, singing, and reading stories to the group.Thank you Pouroa, Hunter, Olivia, Raiden, Cooper, Max and Isla!

Wow ... it has indeed been a busy week.  Next week we continue our MTW group kapa haha practice along with supporting childrens sense of identity throughout the programme through our Pedagogy of Listening! Listening to children's conversations, questioning to further gain meaning & listening with  our eyes!!!

FOREST KINDY
Using the fallen bark for our writing and drawing this week, as we lazed beside the stream in the warmth of the sunshine. Collecting Kowhai seeds to being back to Kindy...More fishing rod making...Listening for our Piwaiwaka/fantail to join us...
