"The book with no pictures". How can a picture book have NO pictures. During Te Wananga Time /Discussion Time on Monday the group received a special taonga from Sally...We were all mesmerized! Is this Literacy Art? It surely is ... plus IMAGINATION PLUS!!!
Forest Kindy - Department of Conservation's "Conservation Week" FIVE full bags of litter collected at Ivy Russell Reserve on Tuesday. "If people don't look after nature, who will?" Jimmy Watkinson.
We continued with our learning around Conservation, introducing stories during Te Wananga Time, picking up rubbish around Kindy, and sharing our thoughts around how we can save energy and natural resources - turning of lights when NOT in use, turning off the tap when we clean our teeth - simple things but things we ALL can do!
Nga Waka Display...If you get the chance, keep your eyes out around Winton for our Polyfest Waka display - email us a pic of you and your family out front of the display and we may need to find some choccy fish for your efforts!!
Discovering identity through Flags
On Wednesday a group of tamariki constructed their own mountain in the sandpit! This led to a discussion around conquering the mountain - like Sir Edmund Hillary - and planting a flag on the top! Continuing with this, Lucas and Cooper worked alongside Judy, looking at many flags, and discussing what these represent - the New Zealand flag is OUR flag. Ownership and pride of identity.
During Te Wananga Time Judy shared "First to the Top" - a children's book sharing Sir Edmund Hillary's expedition, before inviting the children to locate OUR mountains, the Takitimu Mountains.
