The Magic of Light & Shadows - Eco-Literacy through Storytelling ...
Look what happens when Kaiako spend the weekend @ a Reggio Inspired Hundred Languages of Children - Shadow & Puppetery workshop! The 2-dimensional silhouettes have totally enchanted our Mon,Tue,Wed group. Our Shadow Theatre is alive with narratives & imagery along with fun & fascination! Once Upon a Time ...The Life Cycle of the Butterfly... Eco-Kindness
It is with sadness that we have farewelled two of our Monarch Butterflies this week. How respectful the children were as we created a final resting place for our Monarch. RIP my friends!
We are trying to source some flowers from the Buddleia (Butterfly Bush) ... they either have a purple/blue, maroon or white flower. The flowers are generally rich in nectar & often strongly honey-scented. If you have any in your garden or know of someone that does ... can you snip a few bunches so we can feed our remaining Monarchs.
Taiao Tuhura Forest Kindy ...
Art in the park. Trees felled & with such a focus on the Arts it wasn't long before some whimsical felled branches became ... an Albartoss. The breadth of those HUGE wings was represented through the use of the branches - my how proportional they were. Was the influence of watching the Albatross colony most days (on our BIG screen) last year a catalyst - we'd like to think so! A sign & some representational drawings were also part of the Taiao Tuhura morning programme - Tumeke tamariki!!!
The Lonely Bouquet Project - CS Floral Art Club Challenge
Look what Taiao Tuhura (Nature Discovery programme) Kindy kids found on Tue @ Ivy Russell Reserve! The children were SOOOOO excited to find it! Check out the Winton NZ Noticeboard Facebook page & also Central Southland Floral Art Club's post for details. 'I'm all alone & looking for a new home'! Well we have a wonderful new home for you right here @ Kindy!!! Thanks to the CS Floral Art Club for instigating such a wonderful community initiative. An innoviative way for members to share their artistic floral arrangement skills around the community.
Environment Southland ... Doggy Doo presentation
Last year we were invited to present or represent a poster that would/could be displayed on the new Environment Southland 'Doggy Dooo' bins. These bins will be distributed around the Invercargill walkways ... encouraging a more 'user friendly' eco way to remove 'Doggy Doo'. Thanks to our 'Taiao Tuhura' (Nature Discovery programme) ex-Kindy kids Isla Langford, Ashar Sinclair & Luicia Frew who drew the pic & Cody Turoa for his profound quote!
Robin Wilson from Environment Southland (ES) & Phil McCathy (ES marketing) popped out to Kindy on Tue to show/share the Doggy Doo prototype bins along with a photo shoot with Isla Langford, Ashar Sinclair & Luiza Frew's pic & Cody Turoa's narrative 'We can stand in mud ... we can stand in water ... but we can't stand in poo'!

Where does grass come from Project?
At the start of the term we all arrived back to new 'turf'' in the playground. A wonderful opportunity to discuss ... where does grass come from?
It has indeed been an on going Project of grass sustainability. Which grass will grow the fastest? Which grass will respond better to weather elements? Keep checking each week ... there are some interesting results!
Well that's our week ... busy as always!
A BIG congrats to our Winter Olympic athletes, especially 16 year old Nico Porteous who won a bronze medal yesterday. And as Super15 Rugby begins this weekend we might need to say - GO THE MIGHTY HIGHLANDERS! Have a safe & relaxing weekend!
