What has happened to our caterpillars over the weekend!?
There has been a lot of dialogue between tamariki, teachers and our families surrounding - "what has happened to our caterpillars? What do you imagine coming out of the chrysalis? Will it be a butterfly...maybe it will be a moth?" These questions provoked a great group discussion with our MTW group as they drew what they imagined coming out of the chrysalis, we had some very imaginative responses such as "batman, he has wings!" We can't wait to see where this leads us as we are brainstorming ideas of what we could create for the Winton Autumn Flower Show which fast approaching us on the 15-16 Feb, watch this space! Keep an eye out for your Facebook invitation to join us for the show as we will be heading along with our Thurs/Fri group, depending on parent help numbers.
Ecological Warriors
Arriving back from the Christmas holidays tamariki have noticed our 'new lawn.' After closer inspection we could identify that there had only been grass patches laid in certain areas where the grass had not been growing previously, how soft the new grass has been on our summer feet! This lead us onto growing our own 'grass' in garden trays. With some love and care we're hoping to create grassy playscapes for tamariki to use in their imaginative play. Since our tamariki are Eco Warriors, we reused our soil from the Hobbit Hole from Winton Spring Flower Show and our hanging baskets.
"Maybe if we water the plants they will start growing again?" |
Have you taken a look at our pellet building space?
Tamariki have been mastering their creations by building their work on different layered pellets. We think it looks amazing as their imagination takes on new heights.
Forest Kindy
This week we celebrated our first day back at Forest Kindy, with all new Forest Kindy tamariki! Christina and Rachel had a fantastic time taking 5 kindys out, along with their families, exploring Ivy Russell. They kept cool in the shade of the trees and at the creek!! Next Tuesday is Waitangi Day so we will have the rest of our Forest Kindy whanau joining us on Tuesday 13 Feb. :)
A friendly reminded to please have your child arriving at kindy wearing sunscreen, and a sunhat to wear. We will reapply sunscreen in the afternoon, also encouraging tamariki to drink lot's of water to keep sun smart and hydrated! Let us know in the morning if your child needs sunscreen on.
Have an awesome weekend and enjoy the much needed rain!!
The teaching team :)
