Te Tiriti o Waitangi celebrations ...
A shortened post this week - with our shortened week.
Tks to everyone who brought along some shared kai - a very tangible appreciation of 'coming together'. Elle & tamariki also shared their understandings of what the word 'Treaty' means - a 'coming together' with shared values. Check out what nga tamariki shared with us ... Sharing, Listening to each other ... some very insightful thoughts everyone!
We also shared the distinctiveness of our flag ... it represents NZ, the blue is the oceans that surround us & we suggested that everyone look out into the night sky to find the Southern Cross - portrayed proudly on our flag.
Yesterday we asked EVERYONE to take the time to read Dame Whina Cooper's insightful words on our Resident Artist easel @ the entranceway. It is indeed a PROFOUND statement.
Our Waitangi provocations also sit alongside our Curriculum Design - which we are finalising as we speak ... perfect!
Taiao Tuhura Forest Kindy
Alex, Hunter & Rhydel joined the Forest Kindy Group this week. As concerned Kaitiakitangi, nga tamariki were so helpful & kind by rebuilding the Dragon's nest, perhaps this will entice the Dragon to lay a Dragon egg if the nest is comfortable? Jussi shared his forest kindy expertise with our newbies on his last day at Forest kindy.
Winton & District Horticultural Society - Autumn Flower Show 14-15 Feb
Those caterpillars having REALLY REALLY intrigued everyone. Look carefully on the plants - there has indeed been a change today - metamorphosis!
We wondered if we could represent our understandings naturalistically ... have you any stones to share or better still - fossick around your home (neat to do with other siblings), find, make, create & bring along to Kindy & we'll enter it in with others.
Looking great everyone. Our caterpillars are starting to take shape ... tks to everyone who brought in stones for us!
These symbolic representations are a wonderful example of our Reggio Inspired 'The Hundred Languages' - a hundred ways young children represent their understandings along with the ability to be creative & expressive. They have noticed how the caterpillars move segments of their abdomen as they glide along munching all those leaves. We do indeed have some budding entomologists!
It's Burt Munro weekend
If you have any pics to share of all the Burt Munro adventures or happenings around Southland ... Beach races @ Oreti Beach tonight - we'd love to see them.
Did you find the Southern Cross constellation? Share in the comments below!
Have a great weekend - see you all next week. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page - we are finalising our annual excursion to the Blueberry farm. A very meaningful, hands-on way for our tamariki to appreciate where our healthy produce comes from.
Also our Annual General Meeting (AGM) has been posted onto our Facebook page - Thur 21 Feb 7pm @ Kindy. LOVE to see as many new/old faces as we can!
