This Term is gearing up to be one filled with ecological adventures with 5 new children beginning Taiao Tuhura next week! We look forward to seeing what this new dynamic will bring to our unhurried time at Ivy Russell Reserve each Tuesday.
Our guiding light continues to be our Curriculum Design as shared in the heading above. This leads us into the beginnings of our 2019 Murihiku Polyfest performing and visual arts journey. The theme for The Arts Competition this year is Master Class, the Whakatauaki:
'Ma mua ka kite a muri, ma muri ka ora a mua'
'Those who lead give sight to those who follow, those who follow give life to those who lead'
Following along from our very successful Takitimu Waka Installation and Legend Retell Project last year that received the Environment Southland Kaitiaki Award, we anticipate the many "Languages of Creativity" that will unfold as we traverse the planning, designing and process of this year's Art Entry.
Our Kapahaka Roopu will be heard singing and dancing as we rehearse for our onstage debut in late August. The performing arts is yet another "Language" for which we can share the stories and values of our Kindergarten community. As always we warmly encourage and invite whanau to support us in this journey - please let the teaching team know if you are able to share musical or Kapahaka skills and knowledge with us.
Please bring along your used bread tags to add to our collection...these will be sent away to South Africa to be recycled into Wheelchairs!
Hunters Day:
Duck Shooting is a big part of our Southland culture so what a better way to celebrate than a Hunters Day!!It started off with a bang, with our surprise guest Cass (Judy's loyal dog) coming to show off her expert Duck Hunting skills!! The tamariki had a fabulous time sharing their knowledge of Duck shooting and ducks "Did you know ducks can fly?!" Charlie Aimers shared.
"You need to hide from the ducks!" Olivia informed us.
Thanks to Hayley for making a delicious traditional Duck Shooting dish . . . Bacon and Egg Pie! Yum!! This sure did keep our Duck Hunters sustained!!
After morning tea we were lucky enough to have a 'professional' duck caller visit Kindy and share his expertise! Thanks Shannon (Jack Kabala's Dad)!! We sure do have a few aspiring Duck Hunters here at Kindy!!

Ronald McDonald House Appeal next Friday...
We continue to share our support and spread our whanaungatanga here at Kindy as we commemorate the Ronald McDonald House (RMHC) by having a 'Crazy Hair Day' next Friday. Please click on the link on the Ronald McDonald House Appeal event on our Facebook page to donate and show your support for this great cause.RMHC New Zealand provides a continuum of care and support to families with children having medical treatment across New Zealand. This includes specialised accommodation close to all major hospitals to ensure families are supported in safe, nurturing environments allowing them to focus on their family’s well-being. In 2018 RMHC provided for 4,300 families with accommodation and support free of charge to help relieve some of the everyday stresses they face.
What a great cause to support!!
Here are some ideas if you're stuck..
See you all next week,
The Teaching Team
