Term 2 Week 3

A BIG congrats to Christina.

Christina is our REANZ South -  Reggio Emilia Aotearoa NZ (South) 2019 recipient. Christina is seeking out Professional Learning opportunities throughout the year in strengthening her teaching through a Kaitiaki/Reggio Emilia lens.  A well deserved recipient!

Sustainable Resources

We've solved our open-ended storage conundrum in the kitchen by purchasing some new sustainable resources. Bamboo DIY storage for the kitchen (shelving) & new cutlery tray. Tks to our little helpers who along with Megan self assembled our shelving - hmmm  - we had some screws left over - hoping they are extras!  When you get a minute - check them out in the kitchen :)

We also purchased some new baskets ... or are they masks?

Thinking about sustainable practices - keep those bread tags coming in ...

2019 Murihiku Polyfest journery begins ...

We 'kick off' our 2019 Polyfest journey with designing the 2019 Murihiku Pasifika T-Shirts comp - we've left some older entries to show & share.  On Monday we also posted on our FB page the whakatauki for this year ... Ma mua ka kite a muri, ma muri ka ora a mua… Those who lead give sight to those who follow, those who follow give life to those who lead.

Our Matariki celestial celebration begins 25 Jun - 3 Jul. Keep an eye out for our next Parent Group meeting with details on our Matariki whanau night - to be confirmed.

Later in Term 3 we are also participents - 27 Aug 2019 10.20am ILT Stadium Southland - @ Polyfest Kapahaka.  We are beginning to compile our genre - Tutiri mai nga iwi (coming together as a group) is a consideration (fits with our Reggio Emilia Inspired learning - 'An individual within a group - NOT a group of individuals'). Click on this link  -   Tutiri Mai.

We also want to source a Filipino waiata (tks Mary Tolentino - Gillian's Mum) & a waiata that represents our Polyfest Art piece (TBC).

Kaitiaki

The Albatross chick @ Tairoa Heads continues to captivate us most days.  The image of that white fluffy chick - snuggling into its nest, the joy & excitement as the adult birds arrive to feed 'their chick' (squawks & beak tapping) or watching the comings & goings of boats in the harbour 'provoke' us on most days!  Click on the link below to view Royal Cam @ home:    Live web cam @ Tairoa Heads

Taiao Tuhura (Nature Discovery) @ Ivy Russell Reserve

A welcome to Blair Johnston to Taiao Tuhura & a BIG tks for sharing Dad (Mitch our photographer) & to Zane's Great-Gran for helping out this week. A wet Tuesday - but a naturalistic way to 'build our resilence'.  The droplets of water from branches & leaves ... the smell of the damp soil - all  Kaitiaki traits we have grown to value.

Fantails led everyone along a trail of shedded Autumn leaves ... this morn.  A welcoming canopy of colour, light & texture!

Leaf collection continues ... noticing the variance of colour, size & contours along with hypothezing which 'rakau - tree' the leaves may come from.  The intrigue of noticing the 'lines' on the leaves, supple or brittle - wonderful expressive vocabulary.  Last weeks endeavour enabled us to create a 'Leaf Wreath' - now proudly hanging above our Kai table. Tino pai!

Leaves were also used as a vehicle for hydrodynamics ... dropping the leaves into the creek & watching them ebb & flow through the large culvert - the slowing down & mesmerisic rhythm of 'being' in nature!

Then before the end of the morn, an opportunity to share a little TLC to our Kindy Castle - a twofold perspective - a hands-on resource in developing imagery & imagination & also as a refuge from the elements (weather) - GREAT teamwork everyone!

Rongohia Te Hau - University of Waikato
Today we welcomed Katie Pennicott who is the facilitator for this research & Robyn Leckie (Snr Teacher Kindergartens South).  Rongohia te Hau is a tool in gathering data around 'how is teaching being done in our Kindergarten'?  On-line surveys for Kaiako & children/families will also be shared.

That's a wrap - as they say! Have a great weekend!
