Term 2 Week 2

Bright Sparks with Road Safety Southland
Wednesday morning we welcomed the Bright Sparks Team with Road Safety Southland to share their road safety expertise with our kindy community.  Everyone had the opportunity to participate in the road safety programme, teaching us & reinforcing how to correctly wear a seat belt & helmet and steps to take when crossing the road. Many of our parents were shocked to learn when they sat in the drivers seat & looked in the revision mirror, they not see about 10 tamariki sitting behind the car..that's 6 metres!! A timely reminder to check around your car before reversing.

Bread Tags For Wheelchairs
We've had Heidi, Robbie & Mum, Angela English, contributing their bread tags to our collection this week.  Don't forgot to save your bread tags & bring them to kindy!

Back to Forest Kindy!
Our Forest Kindy leaders; Hunter Legg & Clare guided our new friends Zain, Gillian, Emily & Rosa to visit the special places & spaces that they love to explore at Ivy Russell Reserve.  It was shared with us back at kindy, by our Taiao Tuhura group, that there were  "SOOO many fallen leaves" by the 'monster track' (rated the most favourite part of the morning, according to our newbies).  The group explained they had collected the leaves to create what we now see as our 'leaf mobile' sitting above our kai table. We think it looks fab!

Introducing Mu Torero
Kaiako attended an Enviroschools Hui during the term break.  Along with taking away lots of Kaitiaki inspiration, kaiako learnt a new game: Mu torero (star game).  Tamariki engaged with Kaiako, learning the games rules & objective.  Kaylee & Clare battled it out, taking turns to block their opponent for moving their coloured disks so they would become the winner. We see this as an experience where tamariki have the opportunity to recall instructions, practice tactics, and above all, sharing in some laughs & healthy competitiveness with friends.

Ronald McDonald House Appeal
A sensational turn out on Friday with our most CRAZIEST hair styled friends! Wow, we've shared many conversations with whanau who have expressed their highest gratitude for having somewhere safe & comfortable to stay, free of charge, while they've had to travel to a hospital away from home - helping relieve some stress to the family.   Lets help our future families who may require this support in the future by giving generously.Click here to make your donation

Mother's Day
Nga tamariki celebrated their love for Mum/Whaea by creating their own Mother's Day poster, reflecting what they love about Mum & how they love to spend their together 'The 100 languages of love for Mum/Whaea!' Posters were designed using off-cuts & secondhand materials from Ocean Shell, Riverton.   We hope you love your personalised taonga/gift & have a fabulous Mother's Day - you all deserve it!

Jill sent us a thank-you email on her return to Wellington ...

Spending time with Judy and the team was a delight.  I was inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach and it was so nice to see the philosophy in action.  The children and whanau of the Winton Kindy Community are very lucky!!
