Term 3 Week 2

He aha te kai a te rangatira? He Korero, he korero, he korero
What is the food of the leader? It is knowledge.  It is communication.

We head off tonight to the 2018 Murihiku Polyfest Art Exhibition prize giving @ the  ILT Stadium Southland 'Legends Lounge'.   Wish us luck!!!

Polyfest Kapahaka

We continue with our Polyfest Kapahaka practise as our performance day draws nearer ... Tue 25 Aug 10.10am.  Pencil in this date - our three songs represent our Kindy community - our growing Filipino families (Tong Tong Tong Tong), the influence of groupness @ Our Place (Tuitira Mai) & our Taki Waka Project.  Kapahaka in essence for us is a form of storytelling - through synchronised(ish) gestures, movement & thought processes of memory & recital.  It also combines both culture & hertiage in a fun & purposeful way. It is indeed a HUGE day so we will need LOTS of helpers!!! More details will follow!

Out of Africa

Where in Africa did you go Judy?  Well Charlee Frew ... let's have a look.  It was indeed a wonderful opportunity to share where the various eco artefacts, purchased in Africa actually came from.  The repurposed dolls, the handmade wooden animals, the wire beaded animals -  what wonderful ecoliteratedness (sustainable communities) these small African village have created.

Where do Stories Live?

Thur/Fri - Our explorers group. We pride ourselves in the spontaneity of our Story Telling gatherings.  The many paua shells both inside & outside have captured & piqued children's interest this week.  The shimmering colours of this oceanic mollusc is indeed intriguing.  Where do the colours come from? Let's find out!

And before we finished our story we listened, through our shells, for Tangora!  You CAN hear the ocean ... AWESOME! Imagination plus!!!

Have a great weekend everyone ... we hear it's supposed to be a wet one so keep dry & warm.  The Crusaders take on the Lions in the final of the Super Rugby Comp on Saturday  & the Steel continue their challenge of another ANZ Premiership Cup as they head into the semi-final - Steel v Tactix Wed 8 Aug!!!
