Term 3 Week 5

Polyfest Kapahaka is WHEN?

NOT LONG TO GO NOW!!! We held our last dress rehearsal on Wednesday.  We head to Stadium Southland on Tue leaving Kindy @ 8.50am ... our performance time on stage is 10.10am.  Check our Facebook page for details!

Science ALIVE!!!

Science is TRULY alive @ Kindy. More Science experiments from our young Einsteins continue this week ... the scientific concept of REACTION!
Marley has indeed been inspired by Ashton's M&M's science experience last week.  Marley & her Mum (Toni) shared their volcano experiment with us. What happens when you combine alkaline & acid? You guessed it  - an eruption. WHY?

The Scientifc concept of EXPANSION!

Meaningful science ... what do you do with seaweed (tks Poppy - found on the beach @ Colac Bay) all prickly & dried? Let's experiment.  Prediciton - What will the seaweed do? Should we use fresh water or sea water? What's the difference? Will the seaweed smell? Lots of questions - let's watch. We wonder what will happen NEXT?

And yet another scientific concept - colour change or CHROMATICS!

What does one do with two marbles?  Introduce an artistic visual spectrum of colour & colour change.  Red & White makes WHAT colour?  Red & Blue makes WHAT colour? Red & yellow makes WHAT colour? We've experimented with the specturm of colours in such a playful way this week ... not only was Clare memermised but so were others!  A neat experiment everyone can do @ home.

Daffodil Day - Fri 31 Aug 2018

What is Daffodil Day?

The Cancer Society of New Zealand's Daffodil Day symbolises hope for 1 in 3 New Zealanders affected by cancer! Your donations will go towards vital scientific research into the causes and treatment of all types of cancer, as well as providing a wide range of support services, education and awareness campaigns / programmes for people affected by cancer in our area.

This day is a wonderful way for our nga tamariki to develop empathetic awareness. Come along dressed in ANYTHING yellow & can you also bring along some shared YELLOW morning tea! A koha (donation) is kindly accepted!

And our Thur/Fri group have also been busy creating some representational daffodil pics -

Taiao Tuhura
This week @ Forest Kindy we welcomed some visitors.  Haere Mai to St Thomas School - who came along to share some of their morning with us & for us to share our mahi & knowledge of the Reserve & to also celebrate our Taki Waka Art installation.

Another added bonus this week was the digger on Conrad Saunders farm (which runs parallel with the Reserve) - taking out some Macrocarpa trees.  Not sure if it was a coincidence or not (as we knew how organic our Taiao Tuhura & the Taki Waka Project was for Conrad) but we now have a VERY clear vista of our local maunga - Takitimu mountain range!  Ashton shared a very pictorial reflection in his Taiao Tuhura - Ecological Reflections - Journal this week!

Awesome pic Ashton!
And our new eco warriors have also been noticing the changing of the seasons with new flora & fauna emerging.
It continues to be such a reflective place of slowing down & noticing the extra-ordinary in the ordinary!

Calving & lambing - keep up the great work to all our farming families! We hope the weekend weather gods shine on everyone!

Southern Steel compete in the Super Club international comp in Nelson - they play off for 3rd/4th 6.40pm tonight.  And GO the mighty ALL BLACKS who take on Australia @ Eden Park on Saturday.

 Have a GREAT weekend.
